Emily’s Journey – Mesothelioma

I got an e-mail the other day from Emily.  She wanted to know if I would be willing to spread the word that Mesothelioma Awareness Day is coming soon (Sept. 26), since this was a blog about being healthier.  I asked her if she would write why it meant so much to her and I would post that.

Why Mesothelioma Awareness Day Is Important To Me

 By Emily Walsh

One realization I came to when I joined the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance back in 2011 is that mesothelioma is a cancer that does not receive the attention it really deserves.  Through my journey with the MCA I have met so many amazing and inspiring people.  My favorite example of this is Heather Von St. James. Her strength, hope, and ability to persevere is something that should be a true inspiration to all.

The important thing to understand about mesothelioma is that its completely preventable, with awareness. It is caused by asbestos exposure.  Asbestos use to be used in thousands of consumer products, even after the link to mesothelioma was discovered.  And on top of that, it is still not banned in the United States.  Roughly 30 million pound of asbestos are still being used each year.

So with that being said, lets spread a little bit of awareness. From awareness grows hope. Each voice could save a life, so lets rally as many voices as possible.

Read my blog post “8 Things You Should Know About Mesothelioma” and join Heather and the MCA’s campaign to raise awareness for mesothelioma.  Please join us in spreading hope and be a voice for the victims.

Be sure to check out more other’s people journeys.
